SUDHIR, BOU MEDIATOR NAMED

Written by  Aug 08, 2017

City lawyer Harriet Magala of Kituuma – Magala and Co. Adv. has been appointed by the head of the commercial court of the High Court David Wangutusi to lead the mediation process between businessman Sudhir Ruparelia and Bank of Uganda (BOU).

The case file will soon be forwarded to her and mediation hearing dates set thereafter.

BOU dragged Sudhir accusing him of siphoning UGX400b from Crane Bank, but Sudhir has shot back with a suit of his own demanding UGX30b from BOU together with land titles.

Mediation helps parties to avoid the costly and time-consuming litigation. It further reduces cases in courts of law that are grappling with a huge case backlog.

A reliable source within the judiciary has informed us that this case will not go past the mediation process.

The judiciary’s public relations officer, Vincent Emmy Mugabo confirmed the developments and said, “Magala is a competent person who has handled several multi-billion disputes successfully. Adding she has been working with the commercial court since 2010.”

It remains to be seen whether there’s interest in mediation by BOU or the tycoon.
