YOUTH ACTIVISTS STORM KLA STREETS OVER AGELIMIT

Police in Kampala have arrested 16 youth activists belonging to an NGO called ‘Jobless Brotherhood’ in down town Kampala protesting against NRM Member of Parliament’s move to scrap presidential age limit from the

constitution.

The youth who donned white overalls stormed Kampala without the knowledge of police. At the time they were arrested, they were dishing fliers to traders calling upon all Ugandans to join and fight selfish politicians who want to stay in power for long. Norman Tumuhimbise the chief organizer of the event revealed that they will fight until the MPs accept to leave article 102B in the constitution untouched. ‘’We were demonstrating to show how unhappy we are with what the selfish politicians are doing by raping our constitution in order to legitimatize one man’s stay in power’ ’he said The arrested Youth were rushed to Central Police station where they are currently detained.

When we contacted Kampala Metropolitan spokesperson he said they were still assessing charges that they are going to put up against them. On September 12, the ruling NRM MPs passed a resolution to move a private members bill to amend Article 102(b) and delete presidential age limit. This move has woken up activists to drum for the stay of the article
