Sudhir Ruparelia, Uganda’s richest man has rejected court mediation which was slated to start this Thursday.

The tycoon wants Bank of Uganda (BoU) to first reply to his suit (counterclaim) filed last week in which he demands UGX30b and titles worth billions of shillings.

A top lawyer from Kampala Associated Advocates, who prefers anonymity has told us “mediation cannot start until the entire case is fully and properly before Court. BoU’s case is still incomplete. We are not going to let them change their minds as they keep doing.”

The High Court appointed mediator Harriet Magala of Kituuma – Magala and Company Advocates had dispatched mediation notices to both parties but Sudhir has out rightly rejected the meeting until after BoU complies with his demand.

When we talked Vincent Mugabo, the Judiciary’s public relations officer, this is what he told us “if it’s an issue of the mediator that the parties are concerned with, the Court has a pool of 16 competent and qualified mediators from which to choose.”

No case has attracted public interest in recent times this is monstrous battle between BoU and Sudhir. Parliament, Civil Society Organization and the general public have all picked interest in the case.

Recently Sisimuka Uganda, a civil society organization that advocates for mindset change wrote to BoU requesting for clarity on certain issues with a view of proceeding to court for certain reliefs.
