GEN KAYIHURA, MUHAKANIZI ARROGANTLY EVADE 80M TAXES, USE SECURITY TO TORTURE REVENUE COLLECTORS

Written by  Jul 26, 2017

Permanent Secretary Ministry of Finance Keith Muhakanizi and Inspector General of Police, Kale Kayihura have been dragged to parliament for disciplinary action after Lyantonde district leaders accused the two of evading taxes.

It’s said that the two use security to harass tax collectors from collecting income and local service taxes from their ranches in the area.

The contentious matter has been forwarded to Parliament’s local governments’ accounts committee for action after the district leaders complained of the mistreatment from the two evaders.

Mp Reagan Okumu head of the committee has tasked Lyantonde district Chief administrative officer Alice Asiimwe and head of Finance Moses Mugabi to write to Gen Kayihura and Muhakanizi to pay the wanted taxes if not parliament would recommend their sacking from their offices due to misbehaviour.

Lyantonde District was projected to collect Shs105.7m in local revenue in the 2015/2016 financial year, only Shs80m. In the 2014/2015 financial year, Lyantonde expected to collect Shs 115.6m but only realized Shs90m.All these short falls have come out as a result of such government officials evading to pay taxes.

The two are demanded to pay 80m in tax arrears since 2008.
