The Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs/UPDF, Hon Adolf Mwesige has met with the UN Special Envoy to the Great Lakes Region, Ambassador Said Djinnit at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs/UPDF Headquarters, Mbuya hill, in Kampala. The meeting reviewed the role played by the Uganda Government towards the restoration of peace and security in the Great Lakes Region.
The discussion also touched on the existing framework such as the contribution of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) towards the eradication of negative forces. While speaking out,Mr Djinnit hinted that UPDF is not yet a super power in terms of fighting compared to other developed countries armies. ‘’UPDF Still needs to be trained to higher level to meet international standards inoeder to fight enemies’’he said Hon Adolf Mwesige, expressed his gratitude to the UN Special Envoy for all the support rendered in trying to make the region a better place to live and work in.
The meeting was also attended by the UPDF Deputy Chief of Defence Forces Lt Gen Wilson Mbadi, UPDF Chief of Legal Services Brig Ramadhan Kyamulesire, and MODVA/UPDF Spokesperson Brig Richard Karemire, among others.
