Parliament’s Budget Committee has recommended for the provision of the Shs288Bn required for the renovations of Mandela National Stadium in preparation for AFCON 2027.
The committee also asked for the sequenced provision of funds for the construction of other stadia and training facilities, for the same tournament.
“Uganda is scheduled to host Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027. A total of UShs288Bn is required for the full renovation and upgrade of Mandela National Stadium to the required international standards of which phase 1 requires Shs97Bn, while Shs84.996Bn is required for phase 2 covering the swimming pool and Shs105.541Bn is required for phase 3 to cover the indoor arena,” explained Hon Achia Remigio, the Vice Chairperson, Budget Committee.
