The Ankole Kingdom Palace is set to be turned into a museum that will host a number of cultural instruments of Ankole as a way of promoting tourism as well as Ankole Culture.
This information was revealed as the Parliament Committee on Tourism, Trade & Industry visited the former Ankole Kingdom Palace renamed Mugaba Palace in Mbarara City, in their three day tour of the various tourism sites in Western Uganda.

The Palace is being renovated and remodeled into a center of cultural tourism. According to the Ministry of Tourism, Wild Life and Antiquities, the Palace is envisioned to fetch about Shs1bn annually as compared to Shs400m from the national museum.
“With increased funding, the newly refurbished Mugaba Palace in Mbarara is capable of fetching government over 10b annually due it’s deeply rooted cultural heritage & rich history”, emphasized Jackie Nyiraciza an official form Uganda Museums.
The team from the Ministry was led by the Minister of State for tourism Hon Martin Bahinduka while the Members of Parliament were led by the Chairperson of the Committee on trade and Tourism Hon. Mwine Mpaka.
