The President of Uganda Gen Yoweri Museveni has appointed his son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba as the Chief of Defense Forces taking over from Gen Wilson Mbadi who has been appointed Minister of state for Trade.
The new appointment was effected on the 21st March 2024 by the President of Uganda.
This appointment is part and partial of consolidating control of power for Gen Muhoozi as he continues with his Presidential ambitions.
The President recently signed the UPDF Establishment 2021 which gives delegated powers to the UPDF Chief of Defence Forces to handle the deployment, administration, command and control of the forces without having to consult the Commander in Chief who is the President.
That means that Gen Muhoozi has all the powers to control UPDF without even consulting his father
