The FDC party’s demands regarding the send off of late Cecilia Ogwal who was an FDC stalwart has fallen flat.
The FDC President, Patrick Amuriat on Saturday made two demands stating that the body of the departed Dokolo Woman MP, Cecilia Ogwal be wrapped in the FDC party colors and also be taken to their headquarters in Najjanakumbi for a vigil.
The Government Chief Whip, Denis Hamson Obua, who was the most senior official at the residence of the deceased in Bugolobi, Kampala, appealed to the FDC to borrow a wisdom from the Bible in which Jesus once asked a lawyer to refer to the law.
“Having died as a serving MP, Hon. Cecilia is entitled to an official burial. Additionally, H.E. Museveni in exercise of his presidential prerogative directed further that the body lies in state and she be accorded gun salute in recognition of her enormous contribution to our motherland,” said Obua.
Obua emphasized that it is the national flag used to wrap the caskets in official burials.
“In an official burial, the caskets carrying the remains of the departed is wrapped in the Ugandan national flag. That is the law, the legislative practice and the indisputable precedence,” he emphasized.
It should be remembered that the bodies of the late Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah , who died as a serving Speaker of Parliament and Col. Okello Engola were neither taken to NRM headquarters nor wrapped in the NRM colors.
