The Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Anitah Annet Among, is going to handover brand new SUVs to former Speakers of Parliament.
The recipients include Hon Al Haji Moses Kigongo, Rt Hon Ambassador Butagira, Hon Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, and Professor Edward Rugumayo.
Last year (2022) in September, the Parliament passed a clause in the Parliamentary Pension (Amendment Bill) that provide for the benefits of former Speakers and Deputy Speakers.
Among the benefits, include a monthly allowance equivalent to 60% of the sitting Speaker or Deputy Speaker respectively, one four-wheeled chauffer-driven car with a cubic capacity of 3,500 to 4,000, two security guards, Television, two medical staff, medical care for the retired Speaker and Deputy Speaker with her/his spouses.
And an allowance equivalent to thirty three currency points per month for utilities.
