The Hoima City Woman MP Nyakato Asinansi Kamanda has decried the delays in construction works of a four storied maternity and children’s ward at Hoima Regional Referral Hospital.

Asinansi made the remarks on Saturday during an impromptu visit to the facility only to find nothing on ground despite money having been released.

According to Nyakato, the government through Ministry of Health allocated 15 billion for the said works of which 1.1 billon was released to the facility but the contractor who is yet to start the works.

According to Nyakato the only thing that was done was to demolish the old structure and fencing the construction site with iron sheets and since then nothing was done.

“money for the first phase was released but to my dismay nothing is on the ground. When one is on the other side of the fenced wall, you may think works are ongoing as expected, when you enter inside there is nothing going on!” Said Nyakato while speaking to the press.

Hon Nyakato wondered what the contractor is doing or where the money that was released is.

“Not even a single trip of sand is here, no bricks, there is no sign that there is any work going on here yet the work wss supported to start more than six months ago” Nyakato said.

Nyakato asked the Minister for Health to act and ensure that the said construction works commence as soon as possible.

The President of Uganda directed that all contracts in the Ministry of Health and Education be awarded to the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, however there are complaints that UPDF is delaying to finish its projects as compared to the normal contractors.
