The former Leader of Opposition in Parliament who is now a Parliamentary Commissioner Mathias Mpuuga has vowed that he will not leave his role as a Commissioner of Parliament saying that it is an issue of the law and common sense!
Mpuuga was addressing journalists at Parliament on Tuesday morning following a letter by the Party leadership withdrawing him from the role of a Commissioner.
“I will not respond to that letter, save to restate my position as communicated earlier to the Party and nation that I affirm the fact that I confess no wrong doing whether in law or elementary common sense. The position of the law has been clarified to whoever wishes to understand but not to deliberately slander me or gain short term political capital out of the current situation. So I do state my position, it is the position of the law and common sense. I wish to reassure all comrades in the struggle for a fair Uganda that my commitment has never waned and I will not and shall never be part of any form of corruption. I have never been indicted of corruption, I am never corrupt and nobody will invite me into corruption,” said Mathias Mpuuga.
Mpuuga also said that the party should move according to the rules and vowed to streamline operations in the National Unity Platform party to ensure that it follows it’s rules and policies instead of following instructions from any body.
“In the coming days, I will embark on streamlining the operations of the party. We have to follow the party policies and rules, and not instructions,” said Mathias Mpuuga while referring to the stand off in the Party.
Mpuuga said that he is a founding member of the party and will not be forced out of a party he vigorously built.
“I am a founder of NUP, I did not just join from no where but I was part of the founding block- where I serve as the deputy president in charge of Buganda. I am also here to reaffirm that I am not leaving NUP, I am not here to do anything to destroy or kill it. So, whoever thought they are hounding me out, I am here” said Mpuuga.
Mpuuga also accused his NUP Presient Robert Kyagulanyi for moving around the country blackmailing him and said that he was yet to meet him in person. He however said that Kyagulanyi’s narrative had been rejected by Ugandans!
“I have not had a meeting with my party leader. I have only been hearing him speak about our meeting at funerals, the media, among others, trying to convince the country to believe that I’m a terrible human being but the country has refused to believe that. I would want to meet him” said Mpuuga.
Mpuuga also warned MPs against being divided along Mpuuga and Bobi Wine faction insisting that they should stick to the principals of the party.
“I don’t want any NUP Member of Parliament to be for Mpuuga or Kyagulanyi. God forbid, but what would happen if one of us died? Our MPs should be encouraged to follow principles” said Mathias Mpuuga.
