The Butambala County legislator Muwanga Kivumbi has scoffed at critics who accused him of not attending the recent National Unity Platform Parliamentary caucus.
The bitter Kivumbi was speaking to the media at Parliament on Wednesday 20th March 2024 after they asked him why he alongside several legislators missed the NUP caucus meeting.
Kivumbi said that he won’t be blackmailed or be held at ransom in the name of defending a Parliamentary seat.
“I am 50 years old, I have been an MP for only ten years, so when I leave Parliament, will I die?” Kivumbi wondered.
Kivumbi also reminded journalists that he has served as MP twice when he was not on the NUP ticket and therefore he cannot bow down to pressures for fear of being denied a party flag.
He also said that he was tired of being a Member of Parliament and therefore was not going to be intimidated as he is prepared to leave Parliament.
National Unity Platform held a special Parliamentary Caucus in which MPs were called to discuss the crisis in the party and over 15 MPs boycotted which escalated the crisis in the party. The MPs who boycotted are those aligned to Mathias Mpuuga and who are expected to form a splinter political group
