IGP Ochola launches Uganda Police Annual Crime report 2023

The Inspector General of Police , Martin Okoth Ochola, has today launched the Uganda Police Force Annual Crime Report 2023 from the Police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala.

According to the report, the crimes in 2023 surpassed those in 2022.

The report noted that a total of 84, 907 cases were brought before court, while 48,632 cases were not pursued further and 94,535 are under investigation.

27,125 out of the 84,907 cases brought before court resulted in convictions, 843 ended in acquittals, 10,096 were dismissed, and 46,843 are still awaiting resolution in Court according to the report.

Uganda has the highest incarceration rate in the region despite the fact that prisons are overwhelmed with high numbers of prisoners countrywide.

For every 100,000 Ugandans, at least 168 are in prison compared to Tanzania’s 50 persons per 100,000!
