MPs monitoring USMID roads

The said roads were contracted in May 2021 to M/S Multiplex/Ditaco International Trade to construct and tarmac Rushoroza road (2.49km), Bwankosya road (0.76km) and Bushwekire road (0.34km) at shs 21.7bn under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development program (USMID) and the work was to be completed by May 2022.

However the contractor failed to finish the work and has since been asking for extensions.

Leaders and the locals have since been worried that construction is delaying yet the World Bank funded Project is ending on 31st Dec 2023.

Stalled USMID projects

The MP for Kabale Municipality Dr Nicholas Kamara raised the matter in Parliament which prompted the Commitee to visit the said roads. The Commitee also visited Mbarara City and Ntungamo Municipality where similar issues were found!

“After raising in Parliament the issue of failure for contactors to complete USMID projects in Kabale Municipality in time, the Committee on Infrastructure led by my brother Hon Dan Kimosho responded by carrying out a fact finding mission over the said delays” Dr Kamara said

“Despite the contractor asking for extensions every time, he has been unable to finish the works” Kamara noted while speaking to our reporter.

He however said that the same challenges were found in other places like Mbarara City and Ntungamo City and said that the Committee report will help Parliament to make a resolution. “we hope the report generated by the committee will be a catalyst in the completion of the project” Dr Kamara said!

Kamara has been very passionate about these roads and he has several times raised this issue in Parliament. The locals have on several occasions demonstrated about the said roads which have not been completed. The known contacts of Multiplex were unavailable for a comment by the time this report was filed!
