Kanungu District is set to benefit from a new tarmac road as the Kanyantorogo–Butogota–Bwindi and Kanungu–Hamurwa roads are slated for upgrading, according to Kinkizi West MP, Hon. James Ruggi Kaberuka. The announcement was made during the ordination ceremony of six priests at All Saints Church Butogota in Butogota Town Council, where he emphasized that negotiations for the road projects are now with the Ministry of Finance and contractors.

Hon. Kaberuka commended the Bishop of Kinkizi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dan Zoreka, for his unwavering commitment to community transformation, urging the people of Kanungu to work towards development and support government programs.

In his remarks, Bishop Zoreka advised the newly ordained priests to focus on their spiritual duties and refrain from mixing religion with politics. He reminded them of their responsibility to minister the word of God while also supporting government initiatives like the Parish Development Model and Emyooga, which aim to uplift livelihoods.

The ordination ceremony was graced by various leaders, including Kanungu District Woman MP, Hon. Patience Kinshaba Nkunda, and Tumuhamye Kenneth, who represented the Kanungu District Chairman, Eng. Sam Arinaitwe Kajojo.

The tarmacking of the roads is expected to enhance connectivity, boost tourism to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, and spur economic growth in the district.
