The High Court in Kampala has declined to free on bail businesswoman Molly Katanga, who is accused for murdering her husband and Businessman Henry Katanga.
Criminal Division Judge Isaac Muwata on Tuesday ruled that Molly Katanga is not of advanced age and that there is no proof from Luzira prison doctors that her health conditions which require specialised medical care cannot be managed from prison.
Justice Muwata added that the murder of Businessman Katanga being a public interest case , the ends of justice dictate that the case goes for trial on the 2nd/ July/2024.
Molly Katanga was arrested immediately after the 2nd / November /2023 fatal shooting of her husband at the family’s home on Chwa 11 Road in Mbuya , Nakawa Division and she was charged with murder.
According to the charge sheet, the widow is charged alongside side her 2 daughters Patricia Kakwanzi and Martha Nkwanzi who are accused of destroying valuable evidence that would have been used by the prosecution to prove their father’s murder.
However the 2 daughters together with the family’s shamba boy George Amanyire and a nursing officer from Bugolobi medical hospital Charles Otai were released on a 2 million shillings bail last month.
Katanga was not physically present in court and followed her bail ruling on an audio-visual link at Luzira women’s prison.
