The Ministry of Health has requested for a total of 25 billion to cater for medical interns. The request is contained in the Supplementary budget schedule one for 2023/24 financial year that was tabled before Parliament last week. The Ministry has requested for 22.934 billion to medical interns and also asked for an additional 3.052 billion to cater for arrears for medical intens totaling to 25.986 billion shillings in total.

The request is part of the 3.5 trillion that has been tabled before Parliament for discussion. Medical interns held several demonstrations this year for non deployment until they met the Speaker of Parliament of Uganda, the Rt Hon Anita Among who promised to handle their concerns. If the budget is passed and the medical interns are paid, it will improve the health sector since they play a pivotal role in public hospitals.
