MPs ask government to provide 288bn for Nambole!

Parliament’s Budget Committee has recommended for the provision of the Shs288Bn required for the renovations of Mandela National Stadium in preparation for AFCON 2027, and the sequenced provision of funds for the construction of other stadia & training facilities, for the same tournament. This was contained in the report read by Remegio Achia the Vice Chairman of the Budget Committee.

“Uganda is scheduled to host Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027. A total of UShs288Bn is required for the full renovation and upgrade of Mandela National Stadium to the required international standards of which phase 1 requires Shs97Bn, while Shs84.996Bn is required for phase 2 covering the swimming pool and Shs105.541Bn is required for phase 3 to cover the indoor arena” noted Achia Remigio, Vice Chairperson Budget Committee.

Uganda al alongside Kenya and Tanzania won a joint bid to host the African Cup of Nations tournament in 2027, however for this to be realised, a number of conditions need to be fulfilled which include stadiums, hotels etc. Nambole has been undergoing renovations which aren’t yet fully completed!
