Museveni Commends Patriotism Boss Seku Over Environmental Conservation Efforts

President of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has commended the Commissioner in Charge of National Patriotism Secretariat Hellen Seku ,for having successfully rallied the youth to promote patriotism and actively participate in environmental conservation efforts.

Museveni said this on Friday while launching the National Patriotism Environmental Protection Campaign which aims at planting millions of trees with edible fruits in a bid to protect environment, eradicate poverty and promoting wealth creation through Patriotism.

The Campaign is an idea purely created and birthed by Commissioner Seku through Patriotism Office which is under the office of the President.

Museveni who was accompanied by the first Lady Janet Museveni launched the campaign at Kitebi Secondary School in Rubaga Division in Kampala where thousands of people who were all mobilized by Seku attended in solidarity.

“It is also important to emphasize the significance of patriotism in promoting prosperity. While belonging to a tribe is important, it is however crucial to prioritize the politics of interest over Identity”, said Museveni.

According to Museveni, regardless of one’s tribe, citizens should love Uganda, love East Africa and love Africa because they are all necessary for the country’s prosperity.

Museveni also used the opportunity to reiterate his call for government schools to stop charging fees to learners.

In her remarks, Seku said that they are planting trees with determination to defend the countries’ future in line with the Constitution and national objectives which require them to come up with measures to protect the land, air and other natural resources.

Seku told President Museveni that statistics show 600 youth contract HIV-AIDS per week and therefore government shouldn’t close the eye for this scourge.

” This is a wake up call to the youth. The campaign is an encouragement to plant trees as a source for survival thus discouraging them against homosexuality, betting and drug abuse” , said Seku.

Seku further used the platform to share the Kampala City Traders Association plight of over taxation by Uganda Revenue Authority.

On her part, Minister for Presidency Milly Babirye Babalanda commended Seku for her patriotism efforts which she described as not only theoretical but also practical which has given prominency to the initiative.

The Patriotic League of Uganda’s Central Vice Chairperson Frank Gashumba said they pledge to support all the efforts aiming at patriotism and Environmental Protection.

“We believe that a good citizen should have a spirit of nationalism and it is only through Patriotism that the citizens will be empowered to achieve development of this country”, said Gashumba.

The launch was graced by key dignitaries such as the Minister for Kampala Hon Minsa Kabanda, Permanent Secretary Office of the President Hajji Yunus Kakande, KCCA Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka, Vice President Eastern Africa Pan African Youth Union Oliver Mutesi, Rogers Mulindwa the NRM Deputy Spokesperson among others.
