Musicians get 13 bn boost in the new supplementary Budget

The Parliament of Uganda passed 13 billion Uganda shillings which will be given to the Performing Artists SACCO. The performing artists include musicians and comedians many of whom were affected by the Covid 19 pandemic. Although the industry stabilized, many especially upcoming artists and comedians find it hard to raise money for production as well as marketing of their music or plays which makes it hard for them to make money yet their industry contributes hugely to the economy.

Now with the 13 billion allocated to the Ministry of Finance is part of the 44 billion allocated to the Microfinance Support Centre which wil;l be given to various SACCCOs of which the 13 will go to performing arts SACCO, it is expected that the money will boost the industry and bring in more revenues to the economy. The performing arts employs mainly youths and so the allocation is in line of the NRM manifesto which talked about job creation.
