Opendi tables Alcoholic Drinks Control Bill

Tororo District Woman Member of Parliament, Sarah Opendi has tabled the Alcoholic Drinks Control Bill 2023, where she is proposing a jail term of 10years or a fine of Sh20m for anyone found selling alcoholic drinks before 5pm & beyond 10pm on working days.

Opendi wants the employment of a person below the age 18 years in premises in which an alcoholic drink is manufactured, sold, stored or consumed prohibited, and proposes a fine of 20m or imprisonment of two years, or both.

The bill caused a lot of debate in the public last time she tabled it and faced a lot of resistance.

In clause 25, Opendi proposes a ban on the sale or supply of an alcoholic drink to a person below the age 18years and wants a fine of Sh40m or imprisonment of 3 years, or both to culprits.
