Opposition in Parliament demanded for a Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the 18 missing NUP supporters.

The demands were contained in a rejoinder statement by the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament that was presented in the house on Wednesday.

However MPs led by Abdu Katuntu objected to this saying that it’s a prerogative of the Executive to institute such a Commission saying that Parliament doesn’t have powers to make such a resolution that has a financial implication on the executive.

This argument was however challenged by Butambala MP Muwanga Kivumbi who said that it’s sad to attach a price tag on Human beings. However Katuntu being a seasoned lawyer insisted that it was not good for Parliament to pass a resolution that is offends the Constitution!

Also the question of charging civilians in military courts was not discussed as the matter is still in the Supreme Court pending judgement in a case filed by Michael Kabaziguruka. Speaker ruled that it would amount to sub-judice to discuss such a matter.
