Parliament of Uganda has approved the extension of the term of office for LCIs and LCIIs for 180 days effective today.
This was a second extension after the term of the current LC1s ended in June 2023 last year.
The government is yet to get resources to fund the Electoral Commission to organize LC1 and 2 elections and therefore the extension serves to remove a vacuum that would be created if these councils term has expired.
Some locals who were interviewed thanked Parliament for extending the term of office of the LC1 because they do a lot of good work in our communities
