The Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee has halted and stayed the scrutiny of the 2024/2025 national budget for Electoral Commission.
The Committee could not proceed due to absence of a Commission, after the current team’s tenure ended on January 07, 2024.
The President is expected to appoint the new Chairperson for the Electoral Commission before the end of this month ahead of the LCI elections and the 2026 general elections.
Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama was appointed the Chairperson for the election body in 2016 replacing Dr Badru Kiggundu whose term ended on November 17, 2016.
