Parliament passes 37 billion for Speke Resort Convention Centre Munyonyo

Parliament has passed ugx 37 billion to provide additional funding required to complete construction of the Speke Resort Convention centre in Munyonyo Kampala to enable it host the Non Allied Movement (NAM) summit scheduled for January next year.  The approval was part of the 5.2 trillion supplementary budget that was passed by Parliament on Wednesday 6th Dec 2023.

The said hotel is co-owned by businessman Shudir Rupereria and the government of Uganda which has shares. This hotel received 80 billion in the last financial year and the additional money was for its completion.

Uganda is expected to host two major conferences which include G77 and NAM which are expected to attract thousands of people hence improving our tourism potential and hence boost our economy. NAM is an umbrella of 120 countries whose heads of states and delegations are expected at the summit while G77 is Group 77 and China, a loose alliance of developing countries.
