Theodore Ssekikubo (Lwemiyaga County) has expressed bafflement over the delay by Speaker Among to respond to his request for transportation to collect signatures for a motion seeking to censure four commissioners over their role in the Shs1.7 billion service award. Ssekikubo highlighted that it has been 9 days without a response from the Speaker.
During a media interview at Parliament, Ssekikubo revealed that many MPs are avoiding their constituencies upon hearing that his team is arriving to collect signatures. He emphasized the necessity of parliamentary transportation, stating, “As much as we can move the way we have been moving, Parliament vehicles are available. We are doing parliamentary work, so I don’t know why the Speaker has refused to secure us transportation so that we complete this job. After all, she said she has no business, we can give her business.”
Ssekikubo explained that they initially wrote to the Clerk to Parliament requesting a vehicle. The Clerk responded that it was up to the Speaker to determine the provision of transport since Parliament is in recess. “On Tuesday, we wrote to the Speaker, but since then, the Speaker hasn’t responded. This is baffling because we are in the course of doing our rightful duty. So I am waiting for my colleagues to see the next course of action. But since the Speaker had taken long, we thought we could start on our own,” Ssekikubo added.
The situation highlights the challenges Ssekikubo faces in advancing his censure motion amid logistical hurdles and a lack of support from fellow MPs.
