Speaker warns public transport against raising transport during Christmas season

Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Anita Among has warned against raising of transport costs ahead of Christmas season which she said affects the ordinary people who dont have money. The Speaker also cautioned drivers against over speeding which causes accidents during the festive season saying that people should drive responsibly and asked the Minister of Works and Transport to issue a statement guiding people on the issue.

Among made the remarks on Wednesday while opening plenary session. However Nathan Byanyima, the Bukanga MP who also has a bus company said that the reason why transport costs raise is because buses always come back from upcountry when they are empty which makes them to increase on the transport costs so that they can compensate that fuel. However the Speaker of warned against bus operators taking advantage of the situation to hike the transport costs.

The Minister for works Gen Katumba Wamala informed Parliament that he was going to convene a meeting with the key stakeholders to address issues of prices , over speeding and overloading during the festive season! The Speaker asked Katumba to issue a statement guiding road users and inform the house on what actions will be taken against those who disobey them
