Speakers visit Uganda Martyrs shrine.

The visiting Speakers for the 27th Common Wealth Speakers and Presiding Officers have paid a visit to the Uganda Martyrs Catholic shrine in Namugongo in Kampala.

The Parliament of Uganda organized this visit as a way of showcasing Uganda’ beauty to the guests and the world.

Several Speakers attended the tour and appreciated Uganda’s rich history.

Namugongo shrine is a place where 45 people were burnt because of supporting Christianity against the will of the then Kabaka Mwanga who ordered for their execution through burning.

These were declared Martyrs by Pope John Paul on the first Papal visit to Africa in 1969. Todate millions of pilgrims visit this place every year on 2nd June to commemorate these Martys
