Ssenyonyi formerly announced as the Leader of Opposition!

The Nakawa West MP Joel Ssenyonyi Basekeze has been formerly announced as the Leader of the Opposition from 2024 to 2026.

The announcement was made by the Speaker of Parliament the Rt Hon Anita Among as per the rules of procedure of Parliament and the Parliament Administration Act.

Ssenyonyi will complete this term of office and he replaces Mathias Mpuuga who has held office for the last two and a half years.

In his handover statement, the outgoing LOP, Hon. Mathias Mpuuga urged leaders to remain servants of the people & invite the common good to prevail.

“I appeal to the House to accord my successor- Hon @JoelSsenyonyi the same support so that the common good is served.” Mpuuga said.

On his hand Ssenyonyi promised to put the government on check since it is his mandate, “Rule 14 (1) of the Rules of Procedure stipulates that the main principle role of the Leader of Opposition is to keep government in check. By God’s grace, I will execute that mandate effectively,” LOP, Hon Joel Ssenyonyi in his maiden speech.

Earlier today Ssenyonyi attended a meeting with the Speaker in which the Auditor General Report was received!
