The Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Anitah Annet Among today met with the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) Chairperson Hon Mariam Wangadya and the Leader of Opposition (LoP) Hon Mathias Mpuuga.

The meeting was held in the Speaker’s office and Parliament Commissioner Hon Solomon Silwany as well as Hon Abed Bwanika (Kimanya-Kabonera) were in attendance.

Mpuuga on several occasions has blamed the UHRC for not investigating fully human rights violations of the opposition supporters and last week he said that he was giving Hon Wangadya one more opportunity to investigate the 18 missing NUP supporters.

According to the Speaker, the meeting was preparatory to another one scheduled later this month, which will involve the entire membership of the Uganda Human Rights Commission, the Police leadership and the Ministry of Internal Affairs to discuss meaningfully certain issues raised by the opposition.

“This is a continuation of efforts to address concerns about missing persons and other human rights-related issues,” added the Speaker.
