Thomas Tayebwa visits NARO, applauds the good job!

The Deputy Speaker of Parliament visited National Agriculture Research Organization (NARO) in Namulonge, Gayaza during his ongoing monitoring of government programs where he applauded the entity’s effort in doing and promoting research in the agricultural sector. Tayebwa who was flanked by members of Parliament was welcomed by the Minister of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries the Hon Frank Tumwebaze on the 9th Nov 2023.  a

 Tayebwa applauded the team at NARO for the innovcations that are being done, “I applauded our scientists for the wonderful innovations in the animal industry and crop husbandry and indeed they have put the funds released by the Government to proper use”

Tayebwa also advised NARO to seek partnerships to commercialize their technologies that remain in laboratories as this can bring the entity none tax revenue up to at least Shs100b a year from the current 3.1bn a year . Tayebwa also used the occasion to reiterate the position of parliament not to support genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and urged NARO to promote the use of technology to improve indigenous seeds and breeds. Tayebwa thanked the Agriculture Minister Hon. Frank Tumwebaze for the work done at NARO and promised Parliamentary support for more funding of their activities as long as proper justification is provided.
