Two powerful Cabinet Ministers to tussle for Lira City MP seat

UPC Party Chairpersons in Lira City have unanimously okayed Hon Betty Amongi Akena’s bid to Contest for Lira City Woman Representative come 2026.

In a meeting held at State House Senior Quarters and attended by all the Uganda Peoples Congress Party Chairpersons from wards in Lira City, the leaders agreed to rally support to Hon Amongi.

Amongi declared her intention to vy for WMP for Lira City under UPC ticket and later face off with Incumbent NRM MP Dr Jane Ruth Aceng Ochero.

The Minister said she is ready to reclaim UPC Leadership in the 2026 General Election following the defeat of former MP Joy Atin Ongom in 2021.

Dressed on UPC attire, the UPC Party Chairpersons said they will do all it takes to ensure that Hon Betty Amongi wins the Lira City election and pushes Dr Jane Ruth Aceng out of Parliament.

“We have been left orphans, it is only you Imat Amongi who can rescue us” said UPC Chairpersons.

Jane Ruth Acheng is a powerful Minister of Health while Beti Among is a Minister of Gender, Labor and Social Development. They both joined Cabinet in 2016 and they all want to be the king makers in the region!
