The Director of Public Prosecutions Jane Frances Abodo has revealed that Uganda is ranked 7th in Africa among the countries with the highest number of cases with organized Crimes.
Organized Crimes include cases like money laundering, Drug trafficking, smuggling of Migrants , Human trafficking, fraud and extortion cases, counterfeiting and contraband, asset misappropriation armed robbery among others committed specifically for a financial benefit.
According to Abodo, Uganda is ranked 7th in Africa out of 54 countries and also the second in East Africa out of eight countries, an issue she described as scary.
Abodo made the remarks on Monday while officiating at the three days Annual Prosecutors Symposium 2024 in Kampala.
Speaking at the same event, Sharon Nyambe the Country head of United Nations Office on Drugs Crime noted that in Uganda, they see children trafficked for sex work and forced begging.
Nyambe explained that young boys are recruited in armed conflict in the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo -DRC by the Allied Democratic Forces and vulnerable youth fraudulently recruited for employment in the Middle East with registered cases as victims of sex trafficking.
Nyambe further told the Prosecutors in their symposium that Uganda has also become a hub of arms trafficking across East Central and West Africa.
