The Leader of Opposition in Parliament the Rt Hon Mathias Mpuuga has said that his leadership took Parliament to People. Mpuuga made the remarks in his communication to the Mid Term Review meeting of the opposition Members of Parliament held at the Parliament Conference hall. Mpuuga whose speech is likely to be his last communication in his tenure which ends this month, said that during his term a number of areas were visited.
These included Luwero, greater Masaka, Mukono, Hoima, West Nile, Acholi and other regions where he said a number of challenges were identified. Among the challenges he mentioned included land grabbing, environmental degradation, human rights violation on the fishingh areas by security among others.
Mpuuga however said that he was happy that his MPs had an opportunity to interact with the local people and as a result some of them had brought in petitions regarding their problems. The Vision of the Parliament of Uganda is to have a transformational, vibrant, independent and People centered Parliament and therefore the outreaches conducted were bringing Parliament nearer the people.
