It was tears today at City Hall Court as over 100 women were sentenced to one month of community service for sending their children on the streets to beg for money.
According to the Magistrate failure to comply with the sentence will result in a one-month prison term.
The community service will take place in their respective areas of abode (homes) which is in Napak District in Karamoja sub region with the additional restriction of being banned from returning to Kampala.
These women who were arrested from various parts of Kampala were charged with sending children to beg or solicit money in public places.
Karamoja is known as the major source of street children in Kampala who are seen begging for money on the streets. Efforts to remove these children permanently have been futile as they keep returning even after being removed.
