The Parliament of Uganda passed 152 billion Uganda shillings meant for the construction of a modern football stadium in Hoima City in western Uganda ahead of the 2027 AFCON where Uganda will alongside Kenya and Tanzania host the African Cup of Nations. The said money were passed in a supplementary budget that was passed by Parliament yesterday.
This development came few days after the Federation for International Football Association approved Namboole stadium as fit to host any international games. Three East African countries won the bid to host the said games on condition that they construct enough stadiums which can host the games. Among other requirements needed near the stadium was an airport, hotel and hospital all which Hoima has.
“We have today passed a Supplementary Budget of 152 billions to construct Hoima City Stadium in preparation for the 2027 African Cup of Nations. I thank all the MPs who supported this allocation. It will not only improve the Sports sector, it will also promote tourism and will lead to creation of jobs” said Nyakato Asinansi, Woman MP Hoima City
