Parliament standing committees expire, Parties asked to appoint new members

The Speaker of Parliament the Rt Hon Annet Anita Among has informed the Members of Parliament of the Expiry of terms of standing MPs that is due for December this year. The Speaker made the communication on Tuesday afternoon while opening the plenary sitting where she asked Chief Whips to designate the members to these committees before 15th of December 2023.

the standing committtes include accountability committees which are led by the opposition and other committees which take two and a half years like National Economy, Budget Committee, Appointments Committee among others. The end of term for these committees come at a time when the tenure of the Leader of Opposition, Party Whips, Commissioners of Parliament are coming to an end.

Last week the Government whip Hon Hamson Obua asked the NRM MPs who would want to be a Commissioner to apply to the NRM Central Executive Committee for consideration and so it is expected that soon MPs in Parliament will be getting new position.
