The National Unity Platform Members of Parliament have abandoned the struggle to look for missing persons and rushed to Kigali for allowances where is each MP will come back with over 30 million worth of allowances! The NUP MPs had boycotted Parliament plenary sessions for three weeks claiming that they would only return if government produces the allegedly missing persons!
NUP MPs waving people power sign
However when the Speaker questioned their acts of deception and double standards and promised not to allow any MP to travel abroad for any activity on behalf of Parliament including Parliamentary games, all the NUP MPs unceremoniously coiled their tails and returned to Parliament even when the so-called missing people haven’t been found!
The Parliamentary games commenced on 7th Dec 2023 and will end on the 18th Dec 2023 after twelve days! Each MP gets 720 dollars as an allowance whenever he travels out of the country and with an MP spending about 12 days out of the country amounts to close to 30 Millon shillings that each MP will bag!
Allowances are better than missing persons
Although MPs are entitled to these allowances by law, many opposition MPs have been playing hide and seek games claiming to fight for people to the extent of blaming Parliament, yet they are also enjoying privileges like any other NRM MP!
As a result analysts have blamed opposition MPs for playing double standards as they claim to fight what they call a dictatorship yet they continue to enjoy Parliamentary privileges including flocking the Office of the Speaker Annet Anita Among to ask for trips to go abroad. Now Ugandans are asking themselves whether after the trip the said NUP MPs will continue with their socalled boycott or whether they will return to Parliament for normal Parliamentary business!
NUP MPs enjoying tax payers money
Some of the NUP MPs who are in Kigali include; Flavia Nabagabe, Joel Ssenyonyi, Francis Katabazi, Geoffrey Lutaaya, Allan Ssewanyana, Paul Nsubuga, Susan Mugabi Nakaziba, Godfrey Kayemba Solo, Kiwanuka Abudlah, Ethel Naluyima, Abubeker Kawalya, Ronald Balimwezo, Hon. Robert Ssekitoleeko, Hellen Nakimuli,Hon Kiyaga aka Hidderman among others! Other opposition MPs include, Joan Alobo, Muhammed Nsereko, Karim Masaba, Asuman Basalirwa and others.
Now Ugandans know that these MPs can not hoodwink the public any more when they are also filling their stomachs!
