Frank Gashumba has been awarded as the Most Influential Community Strategist for the year 2023 in the whole of the African continent.
Gashumba scooped this prestigious award from the African Public Service Optimum awards that is based in Accra in Ghana and his announcement was made on the 15th Dec 2023 by the awarding Committee.
Gashumba has built a big influence in areas of mindset Change, business, media & community empowerment, which he has done through a number of organizations and businesses that he heads!
Gashumba is the founder of the National Action for Awakening Uganda commonly known as “Sisimuka Uganda” whose vision is Changing Mindsets, Creating Self belief, Transforming lives and Communities. This organization has positively impacted on millions of young people across Africa encouraging them to work hard, to be innovative, creative and to be humane among others. Gashumba is the Vice Chairman of the MK Movement a political organization headed by the first son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba which is expected to take over government when President Museveni retires in 2026.
Gashumba also heads the Banyarwanda community in Uganda under the Council for Abavandimwe. He has led a campaign against segregation of Banyarwanda by agencies like Immigration department which denies them passports yet they are a recognized tribe by the 1995 Constitution. Gashumba is the first person to call whenever these people are denied passports and he has helped hundreds of them get helped whenever they are segregated.
Gashumba heads Mali Group of Companies, a congromerate that includes Bunga Holdings, Sarafina Events, Sarafina Safaris and Mali Mixed farm.
Gashumba also is known for his philanthropy work where he has helped many people individually and through public initiatives. One of the most known people that Gashumba helped was Nabukera who had been burnt by her step mother whom he adopted and catered for her education right from primary upto University and now she stays in the US.
Gashumba is very influential in the area of politics, governance, entertainment, business and social affairs. He is a social and political commentator who is knowledgeable in most areas and it is common for media houses to always seek his opinion on many trending events in the country.
APSO Awards was introduced by the internationally acclaimed firm The Business Executive (TBE) Media Group with the aim of identifying and publicly recognizing exemplary performance by public servants and public institutions across Africa.
Gashumba joins a group of great leaders in Africa that have won themselves this award. When asked by our reporter, he expressed gratitude for the award saying that one doesn’t need to be an elected leader to cause impact on the society. “All the great leaders we admire like Jesus, Prophet Muhammad, Martin Luther king Jr etc were not necessarily elected leaders but they left a huge impact on earth” Gashumba said!
When we sampled some ordinary Ugandans, they appreciated APSO for awarding him,” that man Gashumba deserved the award, he doesn’t know me but Iam what I am because of his messages on radios” Godfrey a boda boda rider said when asked. Another lady said Gashumba is a voice of the voiceless,” he is our voice, he speaks the truth, he encouraged us to start small businesses, I was just a house wife but when I started listening to him on radio ten years ago, now am a land lady, we need such people who tell us the truth, not these politicians who keep telling us lies” one of the Market vendors in Nakasero said .
