Government is planning to pay Sh247b in this financial year (2024/25) to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The money is in regards to the court awards for the resources plundered during the UPDF deployment in DRC.
A 2001 UN report found Uganda’s Army guilty of looting minerals, coffee, timber & livestock during its deployment in DRC.
In February 2022, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordered Uganda to pay US$325m (Shs1.234Trn) to DRC.
The Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Finance, Mr Ramathan Ggoobi, has also disclosed that the Government is planning to inject Sh197b in Roko Construction Company and Lubowa Specialized hospital.
He said that this is in line with Government’s fulfillment of its obligation to pay the four promissory notes for Lubowa International Specialised Hospital and two bills of exchange for Roko share purchase, as these are projected to mature during the course of FY2024/25.
