Parliament has denied allegations of sacking staff at the Office of the Leader of Opposition as the term of the Rt Hon Mathias Mpuuga ended after replacing him with Joel Ssenyonyi.

In a statement released by the Director of Communications at Parliament Chris Obore, the news that staff who were working with Mpuuga had been sacked was just faksehoods, “Parliament has not sacked any staff at the Leader of Opposition ( LOP) office” said Obore!

He said some staff had been on contracts which had expired. ” Six staff on contract have had their contracts expire. Other staff on contract still have running contracts , some up to November while some up to next year” Obore said.

He added, “the Parliamentary Commission decided a year ago to move away from contract employment thus having only staff on permanent and pensionable terms serve all offices at Parliament, therefore; anyone whose contract expires is dully notified. The Clerk to Parliament notified all staff during a general staff meeting in December on the decision of the Commission” Obore statement reads in part.

Obote added that to enter permanent & pensionable terms at the moment is not possible because the government has frozen recruitment and parliament abides by that directive. He also said that the office of the LOP has parliament staff headed by a Director to offer all the required services.
