NAM to focus on political affairs of Member States

The much anticipated Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit kicks off today at Speke Resort Convention Center with focus on two main agendas; political affairs, covering country stability and  international peace; and socio-economic issues, addressing development financing challenges for developing countries.

The Minister for Information, Communication, Technology and National Guidance Dr Chris Baryomunsi noted that member States will also discuss concerns related to the debt burden and how to address it.

Baryomunsi said that hosting over 5000 guests for the Summit brings immediate benefits like boosting hotels, enhancing tourism, renovating infrastructure, fostering bilateral engagements, attracting investors, facilitating trade deals, and increasing tourist inflow, among others.

Meanwhile, the Chairperson NAM Organizing committee, Ms Lucy Nakyobe said that the summit is a testament of peace and stability in the country under the visionary leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

“The NAM and G77 Summits in Uganda is a testament to the power of diplomacy and collaboration. Let’s work together to build a world that respects sovereignty and promotes peace,” Nakyobe stressed.

She added that, “The NAM and G77 Summit in Uganda is a reminder that challenges are best faced together. Let’s focus on common ground, build bridges, and create a world that uplifts every nation,”.
