Uganda is keen on women empowerment – Minister Amongi

The Minister for Gender, Labour and Social Development, Hon Betty Amongi, has said that the Government is keen and on track on matters of gender and women empowerment.

Speaking at NAM Women’s side event organized by Ministry of Gender, Forum for Women in Democracy (FOWODE), UN Women Uganda, UNAIDS and Uganda Women Network (UWONET) at Skyz Hotel, Amongi noted that empowerment of women is key in fighting poverty.

The NAM Women’s side event under the theme: Strengthening women’s Rights and empowerment in NAM kicked off today and will run until Friday.

“We need to fast track the proposal to set up the NAM Women platform with the NAM women secretariat in Kampala. This will facilitate the critical review of agenda 2030 in gender empowerment & women empowerment,” Amongi

Sylvia Mulinge, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for MTN Uganda thanked the Government for all the initiatives put in place to empower the women and asked everyone to work towards empowering women.

“Statistics show and have proven that the more we invest in women, the more we are able to stimulate household incomes and improve overall economic output in society.” said Mulinge.

She welcomed the guests to Uganda and asked them to enjoy the beauty and warmth of the Pearl of Africa.

“We are grateful to everyone who has come to experience the beauty,warmth & culture of Uganda to truly understand why we proudly bear the name Pearl of Africa.” Mulinge added.

She told the guests that Uganda has an excellent working and living environment; Noting that Uganda is rated as the 3rd most welcoming country in the world and 4th best country in the world to visit.
