Naguru Hospital to get Sh23b for expansion, Vision Group to revamp local papers

The Budget Committee has recommended for the provision of Sh2.9b to Vision Group to support the revamp of vernacular papers including; Orumuri, Etop and Rupiny.

At the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2022, Vision Group closed three vernacular newspapers.

Despite Parliament approving funds for their revamp in 2022/23 budget, the money has never been availed to the company.

The MPs argue that these local newspapers are critical at facilitating communication to the locals on massive public campaigns and dissemination of information on Gov’t programmes.

Meanwhile, the Committee has also recommended for the provision of Sh23b to Naguru Hospital for the expansion and transformation of the facility into a National Emergency & Trauma Centre.

Officials from the hospital informed Parliament that the land adjacent to the hospital equivalent to 4.5 acres has been identified at a cost of Sh23b.
