The Judiciary has fixed February 29th 2024 to hold an annual court open day in a bid to bring access to justice closer to the people.According to the Judiciary’s Chief Registrar Sarah Langa Siu, the open day will take place at Kololo Independence Grounds and it will see Courts taken from rooms to the public as one of the ways to enhance public trust in the institution.
This will be the first of its kind as Judges from the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and the seven High Court Divisions will gather in one place to interact with the public to learn more about Court processes and also receive feedback regarding their expectations.
Langa stated that all justice actors such as the Inspector General of Government, Uganda prisons Service, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Uganda Police Force and Legal Service providers and the entire chain of the justice service providers will be there.
The Judiciary will also hold its upcoming 25th Annual Judges’ Conference which is going to take place in Kampala starting February 5th to 8th under the theme ” A people Centered Approach to Justice” at Kampala Serena Hotel .
The conference precedes a duo function to launch the new law- year on February 9th 2024 and the commissioning of the newly constructed twin- tower buildings housing the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal which have costed the Judiciary 110 billion shillings.
