The Anti-Corruption Court has okayed the Inspectorate of Government to prosecute the Karamoja Affairs Minister Mary Gorreti Kitutu Kimono on allegations of mismanagement of 1.5 billion shillings for peace building activities.
This was after Judge Jane Okuo Kajuga found out that a said case has no connection to the iron sheets case against Kitutu.
According to the iron sheets case originates from the transactions that occurred between June 2022 and January 2023 while the second transaction occurred between February and June 2022.
Kitutu’s trouble in this case started when she was summoned in December 2023 to appear before the Inspectorate of Government last month in relation to the mismanagement of the money for peace-building activities.
The allegation is that between February and June 2022, while performing her duties as Minister for Karamoja Affairs, Kitutu failed to conduct various peace-building activities in the Karamoja sub-region, knowing that said omission would cause financial loss of 1.5 billion to the Government of Uganda.
In this case, Kitutu is charged alongside Geoffrey Sseremba, the Secretary/Accounting Officer, Deogratius Masagazi – Under Secretary/Head of Department, Pacification and Development Programme, and Tracy Atuhirwe, the Accountant, all from the Office of the Prime Minister, who have since denied the charges.
According to documents before Court, Kitutu is wanted in Court on 29th February 2024
