The recently released Annual Crime Report by the Uganda Police Force has indicated that a total of 330 people were killed by shooting in the year 2023 in a total of 300 shootings (cases) recorded by police.

The report also indicated that of the 330 people who were killed by shooting, a total of 304 were males who included 298 adults and 6 children while only 26 were females who included only one child and 25 adults.

However according to the Police report of the 300 shootings, only 57 had been taken Court while 73 cases were abandoned and 170 cases were still under investigation.

The country continues to experience worrying trends of shootings and assassinations that continue to worry citizens and this police report continues to expose police lack of capacity to investigate these shootings given the large number of cases that haven’t been investigated. In 2023 among key people that were shot included Col Charles Engola who was the Minister in charge of Labor Relations, blogger Isma Olaxes commonly known as Jaja Iculi, an Indian money lender who was shot from his office among others.

In 2024 alone, there was an attempted assassination on famous City Pastor Aloizious Bugingo who survived death and the Buganda Kingdom Ndiga clan head Eng Lwomwa Bbosa who was killed on Sunday
