Thousands of Muslims Gather for Royal Juma Prayers at Igenge Palace

In a momentous gathering at the Igenge Palace in Bugembe township of Jinja City, thousands of Muslims have congregated for the Royal Juma Prayers. This event, graciously hosted by Kyabazinga William Gabula Nadiope IV and Inhebantu Jovia Mutesi, comes just days before the upcoming Eid al-Fitr celebrations scheduled for next week.

Deputy Mufti of Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, Shk Ali Waiswa, led the prayers (Dua) for Kyabazinga Gabula Nadiope IV and Inhebantu Jovia Mutesi at the esteemed Igenge Palace. The significance of this occasion was underscored by the presence of the kingdom premier, Dr. Joseph Muvawala, who emphasized that the Kyabazinga seeks divine guidance for his leadership, particularly in addressing the challenges facing the region. Notably, this event marks the inaugural prayers held within the Palace since its inception.

The Juma Prayers at Igenge Palace welcomed the public, provided they adhered to the appropriate Muslim attire (hijab or abaya for women, and kanzu for men). Additionally, esteemed guests, including political leaders from Busoga sub-region and government officials, graced the occasion. Supporting this auspicious event is the considerable contribution of telecom giants MTN Uganda, who are anticipated to distribute various hampers to the Muslim faithful by the end of the day.

Muslim leaders inside the Palace

Following the Juma Prayers, a Kyabazinga Iftar dinner is scheduled to take place at Jinja’s Civil Service College on Saturday, April 6, 2024. Premier Muvawala clarified that this event is exclusive to invited guests. The Iftar dinner is jointly organized by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs, Ms. Rebecca Kadaga, in collaboration with the Turkish embassy. This occasion holds particular significance for Busoga, being the first official prayers attended by the Kyabazinga and Inhebantu since their union on November 18, 2023.
