Christopher Ssebirumbi the accused person.

A Lift Technician attached to Bank of Uganda has been charged before Buganda Road Court with maliciously damaging 31 Air Conditioners belonging to the Central Bank .

48 year old Christopher Sebirumbi has informed grade one magsitrate Siena Owomugisha that he has been repairing Bank of Uganda’s rifts since 1997 but on the fateful day of May 7th  2024 while going about his duties , he accidentally caused damage to the Bank’s ACs.

However after pleading guilty to the offence of malicious damage and asking for forgiveness, Sebirumbi has been spared the seven year imprisonment maximum penalty and instead sentenced to a caution.

This is after magistrate Owomugisha has noted that the Sebirumbi had no criminal motive and that the damage to the ACs were damaged accidentally since he has no such record for the 27 years he has worked with the bank.

The caution reduced Sebirumbi to tears in court because the state prosecutor Lydia Nakato had asked court to hand him a deterrent sentence to mitigate the unspecified loss occasioned to Bank of Uganda in repairing the damaged ACs.
